Guest of the Month:♥ Nesquikquiko♥

I have found for you a new Dawanda shop, here is a little interview:

Hello, I am Maru Arabehety, nice to meet you!
I am a Clothing Designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina,
where I was
working for other Companies as a Designer.
Moreover, I was working
as a teacher at UBA,
the most prestigious University in Argentina, and

in other private Institutions for the following subjects:
"History of Art",
"Fashion Design", "Shoe Design",
"Contemporary Art", "Experimental
Design", etc.
Then I decided it was time to make some change...
and
here I am.

I am in Poznań, Poland, quite far from home,
or better is to say, in my new home.
I started Kookoo-Dolls in order to keep my mind active as I
consider very important the flow of energy.
I think when we study or do intellectual activities we keep the energy,
we are focused; and creating
(painting, sewing, drawing, singing...), on the contrary,
it is released, it expands. I think both energies are very important.

I am also a traveler, whenever I have money enough and organize some
time to do so, I like getting to know new places, people, cultures, ways
of thinking, percepts.

2. WHAT IS YOUR CRAFT? HOW DID YOU LEARN?

I learnt how to paint and sew when
I was very young, my mother taught
me, and also school teachers:
Art was always my favourite subject, as
well as Physical Education and Literature.
Studying Arts and Design,
and making several courses gave me many
tools to create, I am still discovering myself
and what I can provide. I spend many hours
making a research, sketching, sewing, painting, re-painting, sewing again, and finally promoting them and selling...
I spend many many hours with this petite-dolls.

3. HOW LONG HAVE YOU DONE YOUR CRAFT?

Kookoo-Dolls was born in June 2008.
I was teaching here in Poland
and I noticed one of the energies
I already talked about was missing.

The problem was, I had no money to invest in any project
so I started to
ask people if they could give me whatever
they did not use or want, they
gave me many rags, buttons,
even broken and stained, cables, nails and
old ribbons.
I was also collecting things from the street or whatever I saw

that might seem interest to me, one line I was working on was called
"SpaceKoos" and I was using for it pieces of a broken amplifier.
Then
people keep on giving me old jeans, snickers, stained skirts,
etc, and
for that I am very glad because Kookoo-Dolls
would not exist without
their hospitality.
Then many other collections appear with different ideas,

so they are constantly changing and maturing.

Before Kookoo-Dolls I had other projects and works, designing shoes,
knitting, designing clothes, purses, also making the merchandising
for
a restaurant, etc, etc. Lots of things I really enjoyed.

4. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEW DAWANDER?

I will tell them to be patient and constant,
for some might be easier and
for others harder at the beginning,
but nothing is impossible, as long as
we really want it
and focus our good energies in what we believe in. Just

love what you do, love who you are, love the world, love everyone.

5. ANYTHING ELSE

I hope you like my work, please any comment you might have, do not
hesitate to contact me, you can do it at: info@kookoo-dolls.com
Have a happy life! and maybe see you around!

Guest of the Month:♥ Eleanorrot ♥

I have found for you a new Dawanda shop, here is a little interview:

1-Introduce yourself

My name is Nora Oertel, I am a 26 year-old MA-student of social sciences and am running my small label 'Eleanor Rot' since 2008. Eleanor Rot is an anagram of my name and I have been using this name since years for my artistic endeavors, which I have always been pursuing besides my academic course.

Last year I decided to make it the official label for my fashion and accessories, which I started selling first on Dawanda, later Etsy and meanwhile you can find my creations in various shops in Berlin, Hamburg, Barcelona and Porto.

Recently, I moved from Berlin to Porto, for the best of all reasons: LOVE!!! So now I am living in this beautiful city and am getting inspired by it. My Spring/Summer Collection of 2009 will be reflecting these changes, as I try to create a mix between the Berlin-bohemian-style and elements of the Portuguese.

In everything I do, I try to incorportate elements of recycling or environmentally-friendly ideas. Also, I like to cooperate with small taylor-shops in my neighborhood to step out of my own little world and have others profit from what I do.

2. What is your craft?
How did you learn it?

I mainly sew, since I am doing clothes, but often this goes hand-in-hand with other

crafting-techniques, as folding, braiding, etc.

I learned sewing at school, where we had classes related to all sorts of textile crafts. It was a supplementing class to the regular arts lessons. Also my mother used to sew, so I learned quite a bit through her and I guess the most important thing she told me was, that making things yourse

lf, instead of buying them, gives great pleasure as you can realize your imagination. And I think I inherited the genuine creativity from my father who has always been doing crafting-projects with his kids.

Later then I attended another evening sewing-course and continuously picked up tricks and techniques through copying patterns and lately through the internet.

3-How long have you done your craft?

I have always been sewing, as far as I remember. As a college-student I made my own carnival-costumes, and since I was a small hippie, I loved to alternate my clothes in the most colorful and adventurous ways. While at university, making my own clothes was always a good way to save money. And when the online-crafting communities started to develop over the last years, it was a great opportunity for me to not only save, but also make money!

4-What is one advice you'd give to new Dawanda members?

I find one of the most important things for getting a good start is to have good pictures! Make your shop and products look beautiful!!!! Besides this 'superficial' aspect, I think a good concept that gives coherence to the products you offer is crucial. Come up with creative ideas, try to recycle, be environmentally friendly, be honest and original!

Also, a successful shop needs continuous care. Try to list new items weekly, so you are always on the top pages. Finally, I advise you to use the opportunity to connect to other members on Dawanda. Through this platform you have amazing possibilities to learn from others and to promote yourself!

Guest of the Month:♥ StuffStuff &Co ♥

I discovered this shop on Dawanda,
and I decided to make Her a little interview ....

1-Introduce yourself
I am Sylvie, I live in north of
France.

I have a master degree in international business (nothing to do with art). I lived, and worked, 1 year in Barcelona and spent all summer in a van with my boyfriend traveling around Europe…and I am now job hunting…and crafting a little bit…and enjoying it actually ;)

2-What is your craft?
How did you learn it?
I like to create good mood stuff, smiling plush’s, and happy accessories… I don’t th
ink it will be enough to face the so depressing crisis, but I try to be positive ;)

So basically I am sewing, but any time I see some new techniques or materials I am always keen to test it.

I learned trying :) What appears on my shop is only the tip of the iceberg ^_^
I would blush with shame if I had to show a professional the way I am doing it…

3-How long have you done your craft?
I created StuffstuffNCo a few months ago, because unemployment offered me a lot of spare time ;) But I always liked to craft. Ever since I was little I use to give my family and friends handmade presents, but it is the fi
rst time I show it and sell it.

4-What is one advice you'd give to new Dawanda members?

Do not be shy, your creation may be modest, it will please someone ;)
Oh and do not jump to conclusions if you are not selling as fast as you expected! Just wait :)
